Victoria and Albert were first cousins, but brought up in different countries. She fell in love with him the moment she saw him. There is every reason to believe that he loved her very much too. Victoria was used to getting her way. Being headstrong was part of her personality. She was the only heir to the English throne of her generation. And, unlike some monarchies in Europe the English allowed heirs of either sex. So, when Victoria and Albert married, --- and she asked him to marry her, --- she became queen, but he was never king. He retained the title of "Prince," and was her consort. When the royal couple were young, they were both quite attractive. Victoria put on weight as she grew older. Prince Albert lost some of his hair, but he still was a dignified figure of a man. much taller than the Queen.
As I said, they were very deeply in love, Victoria absolutely adored Albert, and being a passionate, although very, very proper woman, --- as we all know, eventually, had nine children. She greatly desired her husband, but wasn't very excited about being pregnant, which happened to her over and over and over again, --- naturally. Victoria, of course, couldn't stop having children as she and Albert continue to vigorously make love.
Victoria did ask her doctor how she could prevent having children. He answered, --- abstinence. However, there were items men wore, --- made of sheep's intestines. These were worn to control the spread of venereal disease, rather than as contraceptions. And, they had to be soaked in water beforehand, then, tied on with a ribbon. Afterwards, they were washed and hung up to dry. When dry, they were stored in a box for the next use.
The repression of Victorian Times, we all also know, was an encouragement to smoldering passions, among some who were so vividly inclined... And, it was rumored that Albert even had a piercing, uh, --- down there.
When he became sick, and then died, Victoria was positively devasted and wore deepest black mourning clothes for the rest of her life. She even set up his rooms as a sort of shrine, allowing nothing to be moved. But... What caused Albert's death at the age of forty-two? It has been thought that he might have died of typhus. Still, then, he had chronic stomach problems. He suffered from gastro-intestinal issues for years, maybe Crohn's disease and/or colitis. He might have died from sepsis as a result of this, because he developed a lingering fever that went on for weeks. It may have been that he inherited a weak stomach and digestion from his mother, who also died of like problems, when she was in her thirties.
Victoria and Albert were so happily married, before his death, that their perfect marriage set a standard for other marriages of the Time that was practically impossible to follow. This may have been one of the main reasons for Victoria's unyielding moral principles... Otherwise, Victoria may have thought, --- "Albert and I had the perfect marriage. Why can't my subjects find all they want within marriage too?'
If you are further interested in Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, I suggest the film "The Young Victoria," about their love story, --- very good. Even better, is the 2016 PBS series "Victoria".
